Paul Jacobs has officially been appointed as the Illinois State Senator for the 59th Senate District.
State Senator Jacobs (R-Pomona) was appointed to fill the vacancy left by former State Senator Dale Fowler. Jacobs has served as state representative since 2020.
“It is an honor to be selected to continue serving the families and businesses of Southern Illinois in this expanded capacity,” said Jacobs. “Being a voice for the hardworking people of this region, promoting fiscal responsibility, and advancing ethical reform are responsibilities I take seriously. I look forward to continuing to be a strong voice for the entire 59th Senate District.”
Senate Republican Leader John Curran praised Jacobs’ appointment and said his experience as a veteran, small business owner, and public servant will represent the district well.
“Senator Jacobs is bringing his wealth of knowledge and legislative experience serving the people of Southern Illinois to the Senate,” said Curran. “We look forward to welcoming him in as a valued member of the Illinois Senate Republican Caucus.”
Jacobs is a United States Navy veteran, having served from 1965 to 1971. For the past 47 years, he has practiced optometry in Southern Illinois. He and his wife, Rhoda, also opened Von Jakob Vineyard in Alto Pass 27 years ago.
“Southern Illinois is where I raised my family, built my businesses, and dedicated my life to serving others,” said Jacobs. “This region means so much to me, and I am proud to call it home. I will continue working every day to represent the values, priorities, and people of Southern Illinois.”
Jacobs assumes his new role as State Senator immediately. Illinois’ 59th Senate District is located in Southern Illinois and includes all or parts of the following counties: Alexander, Pulaski, Massac, Johnson, Pope, Union, Williamson, Saline, Hardin, Jackson, Franklin, White, Hamilton, and Gallatin.
